25.01.2013 EAP Tax Relief to be Retained

The Government has now officially confirmed Tax Relief on Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) to be retained. 

The UK Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA) has also welcomed the Government’s announcement. 

An independent review of sickness absence by the Department of Work & Pensions has stated they understand that EAPs are “...valued by both employers and employees, and can be effective tools in tackling sickness absence”.  The Government’s acceptance of the recommendation to retail tax relief on EAPs is outlined in Fitness for work: the Government response to ‘Health at work’.

“We are pleased that the critical role of EAPs in the management of mental health as an early intervention that is both cost effective and speedy in helping prevent employees falling out of work that minimises further treatment and promotes early return to work, has been acknowledged in this way,” says David Smith, chair of the UK-EAPA.
