EAP Tax-Relief Status, a general update as of 09/08/11:


The Workforce Wellness EAP official line to-date on EAP Tax-Relief is as follows:


"To date the removal of tax-relief status is a recommendation from the Office for Tax Simplification, which hasn’t yet been adopted by the government.  It’s been put out to consultation and a final decision is unlikely before the early part of next year, 2012.

In the meantime, EAPA in the UK (Employee Assistance Professionals Association) is seeking to lobby the government on behalf of the industry to argue the case for retention of tax relief.  So until such time as we have a decision, the normal HMRC guidelines still apply.  Our advice to all EAP clients is to seek independent advice on this issue, and/or speak directly to the HMRC, particularly with respect to access by dependents."
